When
looking at the leading factors that get you ranked in
Google today, Meta tags have simple lost their punch.
They actually have no effect at all according to Google.
Meta tags
use to be king in the search engine optimization
business. This is not so any more, Google has
changed all this. A website owner could optimize their
description tag to the highest degree, and it would have
little effect on how their website was positioned in
Google.
I'm not
suggesting that you run to wipe out your meta codes,
lets remember that many of the smaller companies are
still looking at this code. In less then a year this
could change as well.
The
Hottest Factors
So if it's
not meta tags, just what are the hottest factors in
getting your site ranked in Google. I have choose my top
5.
It is hard
to actually put these in order but I do believe that
number 1- is Page Rank. Page rank is like clout.
Google says if "important" folks link to you then you
must be worthy of a higher ranking. This is established
based on the number and quality of links to you from
other sites.
The other 4 in no particular order:
2-Site Title containing keyword or phrase.
3-Content containing keyword or phrase. In
particular the first 200 words in your site.
4-Having a Domain name containing a targeted keyword
or phrase. I have seen this time and time again.
5-A URL name containing a keyword or phrase. The
first word is best, Second word second and so on...
